Grade 12 students are invited to sign up for information session in the guidance office.  These sessions will explore topics relevant to post-secondary training and include:  Commerce and Arts, Upgrading, Engineering, Science and Nursing, Applying Online, Scholarships and Financing and NSCC.  The workshops will be offered in all blocks and will run until November 16th.  

Students interested in being an emcee for the Halifax West Multicultural Show are asked to sign up for an audition time on the Call Board in the Performing Arts hallway. Auditions take place on Tuesday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 26 at lunchtime and afterschool. For more information, please contact Mr. Grady at the email address posted on the Call Board.

Grade 12 students planning on attending Queen’s University and intend on applying for the Chancellor’s scholarship must submit a 1 page letter of intent to guidance by Wednesday, October 26 in order to be considered for nomination. Your 1 page letter must highlight why you would be the best candidate according to the award’s criteria. Please visit queensu.ca for more details.

The boys "A" soccer team came away winning the metro city championships with a 4-1 win over Dartmouth High School. Led by balanced scoring and tight defense the warriors outscored their opponents 21-2. Enrico Rodriguez and Ayoub Alarabi led the way in scoring 6 and 4 goals respectively while Youssef Elaun and Dan Gagic controlled a tight defensive line. The boys return to action this Saturday in the regional qualifier match to be played in Halifax. The boys are reminded of their quick meeting today at lunch.

There will be a jack.org meeting at lunch on Wednesday in room c229.

Student Government will be hosting a fundraiser spaghetti dinner tomorrow night from 5 to 9pm at the Lower Deck on Lacewood Drive. Tickets are on sale in the caf for $10.00. Don’t forget to bring your friends!

There are now donation jars in your D block classes as well as the main office in support of the Haiti crisis. Please bring in some change to help us help Haiti.

It’s almost Halloween, and as always, Halifax west will be participating in the annual fundraiser, trick or eat. On October 31st students will go door to door and collect non-perishable food donations for feed Nova Scotia. If you would like to participate in this year’s trick or eat, please sign up on the signup sheet outside the gov room.

Xara youth theatre is looking for new members! The youth theatre us a chance to grow and gain confidence in young girls through music, theatre, yoga and other movements! They meet Monday evenings in downtown Dartmouth. For more information, visit xara.ca

This Wednesday, October 26th, is our Halloween coffee house. Be sure to come hangout and watch some talented warriors have fun on stage. Everyone is welcome!

Today is the first day of Oktoberfest! At lunch there will be a pumpkin carving contest in the caf so be sure to come and check it out! Tomorrow is Twin Day and Apple bobbing! If you want to follow the themes for each day, be sure to follow the Student Government twitter and Instagram account.

Any female grade ten student interested in engineering is encouraged to attend a day of hands-on activities with Dalhousie University’s Engineering Faculty and Engineers Nova Scotia on Tuesday, November 8th. Students will meet engineering students, professors and professionals working in industry to learn about the vast opportunities available to you as an engineer. Students can pick up an application at the guidance office which will be due back by Thursday, October 27th.  There are a limited number of seats. A final list of participants will be posted on the guidance bulletin board on Tuesday, November 1st.

Grade 12 students are reminded that we are hosted the AARAO Career Fair here on Wednesday, October 26th. Universities and Colleges from around Atlantic Canada will be set up in our gymnasium for students to learn of the many programs that are available to them at post-secondary institutes. Grade 12 students with surnames A-I will be invited to go during A2 block that afternoon while students with surnames J-Z can come to gym during B2.  AARAO will be hosting a regional parent night at Citadel High School on Tuesday October 25th from 6 to 7 pm. All families are welcome.
